Due to the nature of residential care, children can easily become institutionalised and all efforts should be made to ensure that children are exposed to activities, opportunities and challenges that are part of normal households and the broader community. Every child should have to opportunity to experience family life.
For many of the children in Mohau Centre having their own family is only a dream as they have lost their parents and families through death or abandonment. To give them the roots and wings families provide for children, we strive to recruit, train and support host families. These are non-related families living in the broader community and who want to contribute to the service by providing temporary placement for children over weekends and/or school holidays. Requirements for host parents/families: q Persons with a heart for childrenq Willing to commit to a specific child for a period of timeq Able to provide a safe family environmentq Willing to undergo trainingq Willing to work with the Centre as part of a team Anyone interested in offering his/her services as a host parent for a child/ren can contact Makopano on 012 318 6762/ 012 318 6849. |
